Apple has released iOS 26.5.1 specifically for the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 series to address loading issues.
A group of iPhone Air users and iPhone 17 owners were experiencing a peculiar issue where their devices would show 0% battery despite being plugged in overnight. This problem has since been resolved by Apple.
The company released iOS 26.5.1 on Monday, June 1, 2026, with a particular fix addressing the issue of cable charging on devices with nearly depleted batteries. The update, identified by the build number 23F81, is 10.29GB in size.
The issue that caused the iPhone to remain unresponsive while connected to power
The issue impacted both the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 models, causing the device to remain connected to the charger overnight and resulting in a drained battery of 0% the next morning. The particular issue was that wired charging ceased to function once the battery level dropped to very low levels.
Some customers experienced issues with their devices from the beginning, attributing the problem to the cable or charger. Despite attempting various troubleshooting steps like force restarting and changing cables, the issue persisted due to software-related problems.
Installing iOS 26.5.1 – A guide
To set up, go to Settings > General > Software Update. The update will show up automatically for users with compatible models. If automatic updates are on, the system will handle the installation process without any extra steps.
Some users have experienced abnormally large download sizes, exceeding 20 GB in certain instances. This atypical behavior could be linked to how Apple calculated the incremental package for these particular devices.
iOS 26.6 update news
Apple launched iOS 26.5 on May 11 and is now testing iOS 26.6 in beta. Future iOS 26 updates are not expected to introduce many new features as the company is concentrating on preparing for the release of iOS 27 in the fall.
WWDC, the yearly Apple developers conference, is scheduled for June 8, when Apple is expected to unveil iOS 27, macOS 27, and other software updates.
It is advisable to promptly install the update on your iPhone Air or any iPhone 17 model to prevent a potentially severe bug that could occur unexpectedly.
