MediaTek introduces Dimensity 8550 with strong emphasis on AI for mobile.
MediaTek continues to implement its mobile expansion strategy by introducing the latest Dimensity 8550 on Wednesday. This chipset is an upgraded version of the Dimensity 8500 launched earlier this year, manufactured using the TSMC 4-nanometer process and incorporating new AI-centric capabilities.
What are the features provided by Dimensity 8550?
Dimensity 8550 introduces the LLM Booster feature, which collaborates with Gemini Nano V3 support, a Google AI model tailored for smartphone use. This enhancement streamlines tasks that leverage smart resources without heavy dependence on cloud services, a trend expected to grow in the Android realm.
The processor’s performance is based on the use of NPU 880 and features a configuration with Cortex-A725 cores. The primary core operates at speeds of up to 3.4 GHz, while the remaining cores run at different frequencies to optimize energy performance and efficiency.

The Mali-G720 MC8 GPU still supports screens with 1440p+ resolution and 144 Hz refresh rate, video recording in 4K at 60 fps, AV1 decoding, LPDDR5X memories, UFS 4.0 storage, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.4.
When will it happen?
The initial device featuring the new processor has been launched. It is the Chinese variant of Honor 600 Pro, available exclusively in its home market, with anticipation of being introduced to other mobile devices soon.
